Bio

Evie Manieri

Evie Manieri is the author of BLOOD’S PRIDE and FORTUNE’S BLIGHT, the first two books in the Shattered Kingdoms fantasy trilogy from Tor Books (North America) and Jo Fletcher Books (UK). Book Three in the series, STRIFE’S BANE, is due out in 2016.

Evie grew up in suburban Philadelphia and spent summers performing and making costumes at Upper Darby Summer Stage, a local institution and haven for the area’s arts nerds and other assorted misfits. After high school she attended Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT, studying medieval history and theater and working on productions alongside such contemporaries as singer/songwriter Dar Williams, writer/producer/actor Michael White, actor Tembi Locke and writer/producer Zak Penn. Her love of fantasy began with Roald Dahl, Madeline L’Engle and Susan Cooper and grew to include contemporary authors like Tad Williams and Brandon Sanderson. Influences outside the genre include the epics of Dumas, Hardy, Dostoyevsky, Sabatini and particularly Charles Dickens.

After graduating, Evie moved to New York and spent several years performing in Off-Off-Broadway productions before deciding to concentrate on writing. To pay the bills, she took a job at a software company and at the same time started an Etsy shop for vintage-inspired crocheted accessories called “Grandma Was a Floozy” which was featured in a Bust magazine “steampunk” shoot. In her spare time she taught herself the folk harp and became a member of the Renaissance Street Singers – an a cappella choir that performs unannounced concerts of Renaissance polyphony on the street corners of New York City every alternate Sunday.

Evie lives in Manhattan with her husband and daughter and a minimum of two pets at any one time. Most of her time now is divided between writing, working, reading, knitting and live-Tweeting beloved classic films at #TCMparty.
